UC's Undergroud Talent Of The Month

TRIBE NYC

RETROSPEC

What's the every day life of "retrospec"
Well, it consists of a lot of traveling. I work in LI, but currently in the Bronx then will be back in LI. Umm, honestly just relaxation after a long day. When I'm not at work, the studio I go to is in Brooklyn so that's still more traveling (laughs)

How did you come about the name "retrospec"
Well in FL about 3 years ago I was being called Retrofade by everyone cause of my hair. Then the summer of 2010, I changed up a lot of what I was doing and decided to dig a little deeper into my personality and style. So the name Retrospec came about .

How did you get to where you are today? (Rapper, Style Icon)
Well, since 10 I've been rapping. But grew up on old music. That's all we listened to growing up cause of my Mom and Stepdad at the time . I never listened to the radio like that. Unless it was the oldies station . A little bit of hip hop that was out at the time but more old school then anything. So I basically turned all the old school r&b and hip hop into my appearance .

Who are you music influences?
I would say Nas, Big L, Big Pun, Cam'ron, Ghostface Killah, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson.

Who are your style Influences?
Big Daddy Kane, Will Smith.

I know it's going to be hard [laughs] but if you have to pick one song off Deep Thoughts and NBA Games, which one would it be?
Day To Day - That song I wrote in about 10 minutes on a gloomy rainy day in May 2013. Idk, that song is like Air to me.. Everything was so real.

Whose your favorite artist and what 3 artist do you think will still be relevant in a decade.
Well, my favorite artist... NOW would prob be..... Action Bronson . As far as 3 artist still relevant in 2023.. Drake, Joey Bada$$, and Retrospec

Anyone you'll like to thank
The Tribe (hysterical laugh) , nah, really myself.. I moved back to NY with 500 dollars, 1 suitcase full of sneakers, a carry on full of clothes; and a dream. Watch me work.

Retrospec dropped his mixtape DEEP THOUGHTS AND NBA GAMES on October 31. If you haven't listen to it you're missing out. Check it out now! Songs I had on repeat were, Heartburn, Life Changes, Day to Day and Vibe With The Tribe. I like these four the most because they are seamless and gave me things to think about and reflect on. Most artist now a days talk about the materialistic things, but Retrospec and his features rap about more than the clichés. The beat production was exceptional, It took me back to my favorite era late 80's and early 90's.
